New Delhi, April 15
Opposition leaders gathered at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence on Wednesday to craft a united strategy on the women’s reservation law ahead of the special three-day Parliament sitting. With several parties objecting to the law’s linkage with a future delimitation exercise and a proposed increase in Assembly seats based on the 2011 Census, the meeting became a platform to articulate shared concerns and counter what they allege is the NDA’s political manoeuvring on the issue. Senior leaders from the Congress, DMK, Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, RJD, CPI and CPI(M) attended the discussions, signalling a coordinated pushback as the contentious legislation returns to the parliamentary agenda.
