Chandigarh, April 30
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Punjab, will organise “Janta Di Vidhansabha (People’s Assembly)” on May 1 from 11 AM onwards at a venue adjacent to the Punjab BJP Headquarters, Sector 37-A, Chandigarh. The programme is being positioned as a significant public forum running parallel to the Special Session of the Punjab Legislative Assembly convened by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party on the same day. Through this initiative, the BJP aims to foreground key public issues and concerns amid the prevailing political scenario in the state. Senior BJP leadership will participate in the event, including State President Sunil Jakhar, Working State President Ashwani Sharma, National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, Union Minister Ravneet Bittu and ex Speaker Punjab Charanjit Singh Atwal, along with several former Cabinet Ministers, former MPs and former MLAs.
According to Anil Sarin, State General Secretary, the programme is being organised at a time when special sessions of the Punjab Legislative Assembly are allegedly being convened to serve political interests instead of public welfare. He stated that concerns have also been raised regarding the dignity of the Speaker’s office, the government’s approach towards public issues, and the continued denial of pending Dearness Allowance to employees despite directions from the High Court. He said that under such circumstances, it has become essential to create a platform where the voice of the people can be heard and represented effectively. “Janta di Vidhansabha” aims to bring public concerns to the forefront and reinforce democratic accountability, he added.
