New Delhi, June 12
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has convened a crucial meeting of its Punjab leadership in New Delhi on Friday evening, marking the first major organisational review under newly appointed Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon and triggering speculation over the party’s roadmap for Punjab ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. Significantly, the meeting will be chaired by BJP national organisation secretary B.L.Santosh.
The gathering is expected to bring together the party’s top Punjab leadership, including state BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon, former Punjab BJP presidents Sunil Jakhar, Ashwani Sharma, Vijay Sampla and Manoranjan Kalia, Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu, state general secretary Anil Sareen and other senior leaders.
Sources indicated that the meeting is likely to focus on the appointment of new office-bearers for the Punjab BJP unit, organisational restructuring, state-specific political issues and the party’s long-term strategy for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. Strengthening the party’s grassroots network and expanding its political footprint in the state are also expected to figure prominently in the discussions.
The meeting assumes added significance as it will be the first formal interaction between Kewal Singh Dhillon and the BJP’s national organisational leadership since his appointment as Punjab BJP chief.
While party leaders have described the meeting as a routine organisational exercise customary after the appointment of a new state president, political observers view it as an important stock-taking session that could set the tone for the BJP’s strategy in Punjab in the coming months.
With the party preparing for a challenging political landscape and aiming to strengthen its independent presence in the state, Friday’s deliberations are expected to provide key indications about the BJP’s organisational and electoral priorities in Punjab. Notably, BJP National president Nitin Nabin is also coming to Punjab on June 20.
