Chandigarh, May 26

SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal has termed today’s violence during civic polls as “murder of democracy”. Commenting on X, Badal wrote: “Widespread reports of violence have emerged across Punjab, particularly in Majitha, Samana, Bathinda, Gidderbaha, and Raikot, by Aam Aadmi Party goons during today’s civic polls. This violence is aimed at killing democracy at the grassroots level. Sadly, the State Election Commission remained a mute spectator even as the Punjab Police and civil administration openly facilitated AAP activists and criminals to hijack the election. This act by the ruling AAP shows that they are afraid to face Punjabis in a free and fair election. I salute the Punjabis who bravely fought against the might of the state. I appeal to all Punjabis to unite in the fight to get rid of this tyrannical govt.”
