Chandigarh, May 14
Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee President Rao Narendra Singh extended support to the demands of sanitation and fire department employees and said that workers who serve the public day and night deserve not insecurity, exploitation, and temporary employment, but dignified wages, permanent jobs, safe working conditions, and social security.
Singh said that sanitation workers and fire service employees across Haryana are currently protesting for their legitimate demands, but the state government is continuously ignoring their concerns instead of addressing them seriously.
Singh stated that he has sent a written letter to the Chief Minister of Haryana regarding the demands of the protesting employees. Through the letter, he informed the Chief Minister about how sanitation and fire service workers perform their duties in difficult and risky conditions, yet are deprived of adequate facilities and safety measures.
Singh demanded that temporary, contractual, outsourced, and Kaushal Nigam employees should be regularized in a phased manner and that the policy of “Equal Pay for Equal Work” should be implemented. He further said that it is the government’s responsibility to provide risk allowance, health insurance, cashless medical treatment, social security, pension benefits, and modern safety equipment to the employees.
Singh also demanded an end to the outsourcing system and permanent recruitment against vacant posts in the departments so that the increasing workload on employees can be reduced and public services can function more effectively. Referring to the Faridabad Fire Incident, he demanded that the fire personnel who lost their lives should be given the status of martyrs, financial assistance of ₹1 crore each to their families, and government jobs to their dependents.
Singh said that the workers who keep cities and towns clean and those who risk their lives to save people during fire emergencies deserve respect and recognition for their hard work and sacrifice.
