The MP from Sirsa, Member of Congress Working Committee, General Secretary of All India Congress Committee and former Union Minister, Kumari Selja has expressed deep concern over the rising incidents of crime, drug abuse and the growing involvement of youth in criminal activities in Haryana.

In a statement released, Selja warned the BJP government that if the situation is not controlled in time, it could seriously damage the social fabric of the state. She said Haryana, once known for development, communal harmony and prosperity, is now witnessing an atmosphere of fear and insecurity due to increasing incidents of extortion, ransom demands, murders and firing cases. Organised criminal gangs, she alleged, are active from villages to cities, with unemployed youth increasingly being drawn into crime.

Selja said young people are being lured into criminal networks through small amounts of money and false promises of glamour. She added that social media is being misused to expand criminal networks, while the growing menace of drug abuse has further aggravated the situation. She said this is not merely a failure of law and order, but also the result of policy failures of the government. Targeting the BJP government,

Selja alleged that it has failed to provide employment opportunities for youth, allowing criminal gangs to exploit frustration and unemployment. Instead of “misleading youth through propaganda. She said the government should focus on providing employment, education, sports and skill development opportunities so that young people stay away from crime and drugs. Selja said that during the Congress regime, Haryana was counted among the leading states in development, investment, education and employment, whereas today the state is increasingly making headlines for crime-related incidents. She claimed that public confidence in law enforcement is weakening and citizens are feeling unsafe.

Selja demanded that the state government launch a special drive against organised crime, drug trafficking and illegal arms networks, create large-scale employment opportunities for youth, and ensure impartial policing free from political pressure. She added that the Congress would continue to raise its voice for public safety, the future of youth and social harmony in Haryana.
