Shiromani Akali Dal president and former deputy chief minister of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal has been attacked inside a gurdwara located in the Mata Saheb Kaur area of Nanded, Maharashtra. The assailant, identified as a Nihang, allegedly struck him with a sharp weapon believed to be a kirpan. During the assault, Badal sustained an injury to his right hand. He was immediately taken to a private medical facility for treatment and is currently undergoing care at Yashosai Hospital. Notably, on December 4, 2024, Badal had narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Amritsar. A former militant with pro‑Khalistan leanings allegedly had opened fire on him outside the Golden Temple, where Badal had gone to perform penance for what he described as his past mistakes.
