Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today welcomed the Punjab and Haryana High Court double bench order rejecting Punjab government’s petition challenging payment of DA to government employees and pensioners by June 30.

Warring said, the DA was the right of the employees and pensioners and it was shocking that the Punjab government was putting up such a forceful resistance against paying it to them. He pointed out, the AAP government has taken Rs 5300 crores loan in the last one and a half month. Besides, he added, the government has been spending lavishly on propaganda and publicity. “If it can borrow money for publicity and propaganda, why can’t it borrow money for paying the employees and pensioners their dues?” he asked.

The PCC president said that the AAP government had already drowned the state in massive debt taking it from Rs 2.5 lakh crores in 2022 to Rs 4 lakh crores in just four years, it is surprising why it was resisting paying the employees and the pensioners their rightful due and even challenging the court orders.

Warring hoped that with the court orders the government should now be obliged to pay the arrears to the employees and pensioners. He said, in case the AAP government fails to do it, the Congress government which will be formed in the next elections scheduled within less than nine months from now, will pay the DA arrears on top most priority.
