Ludhiana, October 29

Former Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president and Ludhiana Member of Parliament Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Thursday visited the family of Rahul Sharma, son of the owner of Ludhiana’s famous Pandit Chole Kulche Wala, who was shot dead during a birthday party in the city a few days ago, to offer his condolences and share in their grief. At their Prem Nagar residence, Warring met late Rahul’s father Kuldeep Sharma and expressed his heartfelt condolences.

Speaking to mediapersons, Warring said that the family was unaware of whether the culprits had been arrested. “After speaking to the Ludhiana Police Commissioner over the telephone, he confirmed that the accused have been arrested but the reason behind the murder is not yet known. I again called up the Commissioner, but he was busy in a meeting and informed me that the police are investigating the matter and would update me accordingly,” he said.

Pointing out that the deceased was the only child of his parents and was just 34 years old, Warring said, “What was the reason? Why was the young man killed? There was neither any enmity nor any dispute. Then, the occurrence of such an incident raises a big question mark over the functioning of the Punjab Police.” He expressed concern over the incident and the overall law and order situation in the state.

Warring remarked that the situation regarding arms in Punjab had become such that they appeared to be handed out as freely as apples sold on roadside carts. He said that even during the militancy period, the situation was not as alarming as it is today. “During terrorism, there were not as many illegal weapons in Punjab as there are now. Back then, an AK-47 could not be found. Nowadays, one hears from youngsters that if anyone wants to buy an AK-47, they can do so. Such are the conditions today, as arms and drugs are being supplied in huge quantities through drones,” he said.

Warring was accompanied by former General Secretary PPCC Pawan Dewan, DCC (Urban) president Sanjay Talwar, former MLA Kuldeep Vaid and Simaranjeet Singh Bains, Maninder Pal Guliani, Rohit Pahwa, Kulbir Neeta, Brij Mohan Sharma, Deepak Hans, Harbhagat Grewal, Jaswinder Singh Oshan and Varun Sharma.
