Chandigarh, October 23
“Bhagwant Mann ji, if drugs are entering Punjab from Gujarat or across the international border, then hand over the investigation into drug-related cases to the CBI and the NIA. Why are you afraid of a CBI probe into these cases? Hand over the cases involving Parvinder Jhota, Gulzar Singh, and Bikramjit Singh to the CBI as well , so that the truth can come out,” said Ashwani Sharma, former Punjab BJP State President and MLA.
Reacting to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s allegations against the Central Government over the drug menace, Sharma said the Chief Minister could not evade responsibility by shifting the blame to the Centre. He said Mann must answer to the people of Punjab for his government’s failure to curb drugs, gangsterism and corruption in the state.
Sharma said that if the Chief Minister was questioning drug seizures in Gujarat and alleging that narcotics were being smuggled through ports, he should first explain how packets of heroin, commonly known as chitta, continued to reach households across Punjab.
He further said that the Border Security Force (BSF) had recently apprehended Punjab Police constable Karandeep, who was reportedly involved in operating a drone system, and seized 15 kilograms of heroin in the case. Sharma demanded that the Chief Minister explain what action his government had taken to dismantle the alleged nexus between police personnel and drug traffickers.
Sharma said that transparency, accountability and an impartial investigation were essential to making Punjab drug-free. Instead of resorting to political rhetoric and trading accusations, he said, the government must demonstrate its commitment through concrete action and measurable results.
