Talwandi Sabo, October 30

Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal today the police has gone berserk and had gone to the extent of abducting the body of a youth who had died due to drug overdose on the orders of chief minister Bhagwant Mann who was siding with the drug mafia instead of aggrieved families.

The Bathinda MP, who addressed a massive gathering of women under the Maavan-Dheeyan Lalkar Insaaf campaign organised by Halka incharge Ravipreet Singh Sidhu at Talwandi Sabo, said “the Mansa SSP, who had refused to take action against all those who were complicit in the murder of anti-drug crusader Parvinder Singh Jhota, had now covered himself with shame by abducting the body of Bhamme Kalan resident Daljit Singh. “This happened in plain sight of everyone when the victim’s family was taking the body to the dharna site in Mansa where the family of Parvinder Jhota is sitting in protest”. She said despite this when she visited the aggrieved family last night; the SSP lied to her and tried to cover up the entire incident.

Urging the women to take up the fight against drugs in their own hands, Harsimrat said, “It is heartening that women are not only filling forms to join the Mai Bhago Di Fauj formed by the SAD, but have also started confronting drug traffickers”.  She appealed to the women to record all drug dealings being done in their villages and ‘mohallas’ along with the names of the dealers, the police officials who were siding with them and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) politicians who were shielding them.  “We will form a special task force headed by a woman DGP to look into all the complaints and take exemplary action against the offenders”. She also announced that constituency level coordinators were also being appointed as part of the Mai Bhago Di Fauj.

Assuring the women that drug traffickers and their bosses would no longer remain in their midst, Harsimrat said “we will bring in a law to keep them in prison for ten years without the option of bail and also seize all their properties and use the proceeds to rehabilitate their victims”.

Harsimrat also interacted with Pushpa, a mother who lost her son to drug overdose and said “everywhere I go women come up to me and say and tell me to do something to end this scourge which is destroying their lives. It is shameful that chief minister Bhagwant Mann is refusing to hear their pleas and has failed to take any decisive action against the drug mafia. She also condemned the chief minister for refusing to meet the family of Parvinder Jhota which was demanding justice for their son and had not cremated his body for more than fifteen days.

Harsimrat said earlier also the chief minister had shown where his sympathies lay by getting Mohanjit Singh, who had shown him a black flag to protest against the drug trade, tortured and electrocuted. She said the same was the case of Gulzar Singh of Dirba, who ended his life after being harassed for asking finance minister Harpal Cheema why no action was being taken to stop the sale of ‘chitta’. “All such cases have sent a clear message to the messengers of death that they are the real rulers and that is why the drug menace increases by the day”, she added.
