In a politically significant and unequivocal declaration that could reshape Punjab’s electoral landscape, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday announced that it will contest all 117 Assembly constituencies on its own in the upcoming Punjab elections, firmly ruling out any dependence on alliance politics and signalling its intent to emerge as a dominant force in the state.

A decision to this effect was taken during the BJP’s crucial organisational and electoral review meeting in the national capital, which lasted for almost two and a half hours and concluded around 10.30 pm. Apart from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president Nitin Nabin and BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santosh, several other central leaders and prominent Punjab BJP figures participated in the deliberations.

Speaking to the media after the meeting concluded, Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon and former Finance Minister and senior leader Manpreet Badal said, “In the meeting, it was decided that the party would contest all 117 seats in Punjab.” The declaration assumes added significance as it came within hours of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal stating that the Punjab Assembly elections are likely to be held in November 2026 and formally projecting Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann as the party’s face for the contest.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Manpreet Badal left little room for ambiguity about the party’s strategy. “The BJP has taken a clear and firm decision to contest all 117 Assembly seats independently. We are entering the electoral arena with full confidence and a clear vision for Punjab. The people are looking for a strong and stable alternative and we are confident the BJP will form the next government in the state,” he asserted.

Manpreet also said the meeting focused on Punjab’s pressing challenges, possible solutions and the people’s expectations ahead of the elections. “We deliberated on ways to pull Punjab out of its economic and social crisis and restore its lost prestige. It was unanimously decided that the party will contest all 117 seats with the clear objective of forming a ‘double‑engine’ government. Our mission is to establish a BJP government in Punjab,” he asserted. Meanwhile, Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon also told the media, “We are fully prepared to contest all 117 assembly seats in Punjab and are confident of emerging victorious.”

The declaration marks one of the strongest indications yet that the BJP is determined to chart an independent political course in Punjab and build its organisation as a standalone force rather than rely on pre-poll alliances. Party leaders maintained that the BJP’s expanding support base, growing organisational network and increasing acceptance among various sections of society have strengthened its resolve to fight the elections on its own strength.

The presence of the party’s top Punjab leadership in the meeting underscored the importance the BJP’s central command is attaching to the state, which is set to witness an intense multi‑cornered contest. The leadership reaffirmed its resolve to expand the party’s influence across Punjab and position the BJP as a serious contender for power. Sources said deliberations included a comprehensive review of the political scenario, evolving electoral dynamics, grassroots preparedness and the roadmap to broaden the BJP’s footprint. Detailed discussions focused on strengthening booth‑level structures, mobilising workers, engaging new voter segments and projecting the BJP as a credible alternative to both the ruling AAP and traditional players.

“With the election clock now effectively ticking and political parties beginning to unveil their strategies, the BJP’s declaration of a solo contest across all 117 constituencies has sent a clear message that it intends to fight the Punjab battle on its own terms and with its sights firmly set on forming the next government,” opined independent political observers.

Meanwhile, apart from Manpreet and Dhillon, the meeting witnessed the participation of several prominent Punjab BJP leaders including Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu, Sunil Jakhar, Ashwani Sharma, Jai Inder Kaur, Fateh Jung Singh Bajwa, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi and Som Parkash, among others.
