The PSEB Engineers’ Association has strongly condemned what it termed a “targeted attack” against senior technocrats of Punjab’s power sector in connection with a 15‑year‑old matter. In a letter to the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Association has expressed deep concern over the arrest of K.D. Choudhriy, former CMD of PSPCL. It said the manner in which the Punjab Vigilance Bureau has handled the proceedings does not reflect a fair or impartial inquiry.

Association General Secretary Ajaypal Singh Atwal stated that while the association does not support any individual found guilty of corruption after a fair probe, it cannot remain silent when senior technocrats are selectively targeted in a motivated manner that demoralises the entire engineering fraternity.

Calling the FIR “highly vague and open‑ended,” the Association alleged that the case appears biased and driven by ulterior motives. “Such actions have created fear, uncertainty and demoralisation among officers working in the power sector, which will adversely affect the functioning of the utilities,” the statement said.

The Association pointed out that all records pertaining to the case have long been available with the Vigilance office. “Had the department been sincere, it could have filed the charge sheet in the last five years since receiving the complaint. Instead, the Vigilance wing, which itself is under a serious cloud, seems to be attempting to save its own image by creating a false narrative,” it added.

Urging an independent probe, the Association demanded that the matter be entrusted to a sitting or retired High Court judge “so that truth and justice prevail.”

An emergency meeting of the Association’s Executive Committee has also been convened to deliberate on the issue.
