Chandigarh, January 30
Preparations for the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections in Haryana are in full swing. The Indian National Congress has intensified its strategy for the elections to be held in three major Municipal Corporations—Panchkula, Ambala, and Sonipat. The party has invited applications from interested and eligible candidates for the posts of Mayor and Councillor, with the objective of selecting strong candidates through a democratic and transparent process.
This information was shared by Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee President Rao Narendra Singh in a press note issued from Chandigarh. He stated that the application process has been initiated with the aim of strengthening the roots of democracy and bringing forward capable, people-oriented leadership at the grassroots level. He informed that the last date for submission of applications has been fixed as 5 February 2026.
Singh said, “Congress will contest these Municipal Corporation elections with full strength and enthusiasm. We will give priority to the basic issues of the people—such as cleanliness, water supply, roads, electricity, parking, housing for the poor, and urban development—and will present concrete solutions to these problems.”
Singh appealed to aspiring candidates to strictly follow the guidelines prescribed by the party and ensure submission of their applications within the stipulated time frame. The application must include a biodata, required certificates (such as caste certificate, Aadhaar card, voter ID), details of association with the party, previous electoral experience, and other relevant documents.
Singh said that this proactive approach of the Congress makes the upcoming civic body elections not merely a local exercise, but an important platform to strengthen the party’s position in state politics. It is expected that the framework for ticket distribution and the election campaign will be clarified soon.
On the sacred occasion of Martyrs’ Day (30 January), marking the sacrifice of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, a beautiful tradition of deep reverence and emotional respect was observed under the leadership of the Pradesh Congress Committee.
Today, a solemn ceremony was organized at the Pradesh Congress Headquarters in Chandigarh, where Singh offered floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. With deep reverence, he paid homage to Bapu and bowed before his immortal principles of non-violence, Satyagraha, and universal harmony.
On this occasion, Singh said that Mahatma Gandhi’s sacrifice was not merely the sacrifice of an individual, but the sacrifice of the soul of the entire nation. He dedicated his life to India’s freedom, social harmony, and the service of humanity.
