Chandigarh, March 9

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), in collaboration with the Chandigarh Administration, has launched a special drive for Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) of Aadhaar for children in the age groups of 5–7 years and 15–17 years in the city. Since the biometric features of children change with age, it is important to update their fingerprints, iris scans and photograph in the Aadhaar database. Timely biometric updates help ensure smooth Aadhaar authentication and enable children to access Aadhaar-based services without difficulty in the future.

Updated Aadhaar biometrics are also increasingly required for identity verification in various competitive and entrance examinations, such as National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), as well as for several other academic and administrative processes. UIDAI has informed that Aadhaar biometric updates for children up to 17 years of age are currently being provided free of cost for a limited period. Parents and guardians are encouraged to avail this facility and ensure that their children’s Aadhaar biometrics are updated within the prescribed time.

To facilitate citizens, special Aadhaar biometric update camps are being organised in various government and private schools across Chandigarh. In addition, parents and students may also visit Aadhaar Seva Kendras, Sampark Centres and authorised Common Service Centres (CSCs) to complete the update.

Benefits of Aadhaar Biometric Update-Ensures smooth Aadhaar authentication for digital and government services, helps students avail scholarships and other welfare schemes, facilitates Aadhaar-based e-KYC for banking and financial services, assists in identity verification for entrance examinations and other academic processes, prevents inconvenience due to outdated biometrics in the future and strengthens the secure digital identity of children

Parents and guardians are requested to cooperate with schools and ensure that eligible children complete their Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) within the stipulated time. For further information, citizens may contact their respective schools or visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Sampark Centre.
