Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today defended riding a bullock cart to go for casting his vote, saying it was a symbolic protest against huge rise in the prices of diesel and petrol in the country.

Replying to a question that Chief Minister Mann had taunted his riding a bullock cart when he owned expensive cars, Warring said that he can very much afford the petrol and diesel at the hiked price.

“Issue is not whether me or CM Mann can afford it, we obviously can, but what about the common people?” Warring asked, pointing out people who earn just Rs 10 to 12,000 cannot afford such expensive fuel.

Moreover, Warring pointed out, his symbolic protest was against the BJP government at the centre. “I am surprised why CM Mann has so much problem with it”, he noted, while asking, “is he the BJP’s spokesperson?”

Warring said, CM Mann should have appreciated his symbolic protest and supported it. “After all I was only raising an issue of public interest”, he remarked, while adding, “bullock carts are still very much in use in the villages and many farmers still use them for agricultural transportation”.

“I am sure CM Mann must have rode on these bullock carts before he graduated to ride the expensive SUVs like Land Cruiser as the Chief Minister”, Warring remarked, while emphasizing that the bullock carts are still commonly used in villages.
