Ludhiana, May 30
Former President of the District Congress Committee (Urban), Ludhiana and former Chairman of the Punjab Large Industrial Development Board, Pawan Dewan, today convened a meeting with residents of Sita Nagar, organized by Neeraj Birla, to hear firsthand the mounting grievances of the people.
Dewan minced no words in exposing the stark contrast between the Aam Aadmi Party government’s glossy advertisements and the grim reality on the ground. He said residents expressed alarm over the deteriorating law and order situation, with incidents of robbery, theft and even murder becoming disturbingly routine. “The situation has worsened to the extent that people feel unsafe stepping out of their homes even in broad daylight,” Dewan remarked.
Dewan underscored that governance cannot be reduced to slogans and publicity campaigns. “There is a yawning gap between the government’s tall claims and the lived reality of citizens. Development must be visible at the grassroots, not confined to rhetoric,” he asserted.
Residents also voiced anguish over spiraling inflation. Dewan highlighted that the relentless rise in petrol and diesel prices has shattered household budgets, while incomes remain stagnant. He lambasted oil companies for profiteering despite purchasing crude at lower rates, urging them to slash fuel prices in the public interest. “Rising fuel costs ripple across every sector, inflating the daily expenses of ordinary citizens and squeezing every section of society,” he said.
Calling for urgent corrective measures, Dewan stressed that governments must treat inflation as a crisis demanding immediate action. “Public grievances cannot be solved through announcements alone. Relief must reach the people where it matters most — in their kitchens, their streets and their daily lives,” he declared.
The meeting was attended by Member PPCC Sushil Malhotra and senior leaders Inderjit Kapoor, Niraj Birla, Rohit Pahwa, Pulkit Chaudhary, Rajiv Kapoor, Ankit Jindal, Harjeet Singh, Vijay Arora, Jaspal Sharma, Manohar Jain, among others, who stood in solidarity with the residents’ concerns.
