The Sirsa MP, Former Union Cabinet Minister, All India Congress Committee General Secretary and Congress Working Committee member Kumari Selja said the ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ mega rally, scheduled to be held at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on November 1, would be an important mass movement to protect the country’s democracy, Constitution and citizens’ voting rights. She appealed to people from Haryana and across the country to participate in the rally in large numbers.

Selja said the Congress alleged that the BJP-led Central government was weakening the autonomy of democratic institutions and that serious questions had been raised about the fairness of the electoral process. She called for an impartial investigation into allegations of vote theft. She said the people were supreme in a democracy and no government should be allowed to misuse constitutional institutions for political interests. Citizens must raise their voices peacefully and constitutionally to protect their democratic rights, she added.

Selja said she had held detailed discussions with Haryana Congress Incharge Sanjay Dutt and state Congress President Rao Narender Singh regarding preparations for the rally, organisational coordination and ensuring large-scale participation from Haryana. The leaders called upon Congress workers to reach out to people in villages and cities to encourage participation. She expressed confidence that Haryana would record historic participation in the rally being held under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. She reaffirmed that the Congress would continue its struggle to protect democratic values, constitutional rights and a fair electoral system.
