Amritsar, October 29
Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Partap Singh Bajwa, today addressed a press conference in Amritsar and said that the upcoming Insaaf Rally of Shri Rahul Gandhi on November 4 would give voice to Punjab’s demand for accountability over the Aam Aadmi Party government’s unfulfilled promises and failures.
Bajwa said Punjab had given Bhagwant Mann and AAP a historic mandate in the hope of a drug-free state, corruption-free governance, safety for citizens and justice for victims. However, he said, persistent concerns over Chitta, crime and corruption had raised serious questions about the government’s record.
Punjab gave AAP an opportunity to bring change as they promised, but today people are asking for answers. The ‘Insaaf Rally’ will highlight the issues affecting ordinary Punjabis and demand accountability from a government that made sweeping promises,” Bajwa said.
Raising the issue of drugs, Bajwa questioned the effectiveness of the government’s anti-drug campaign and sought answers over reported drug-related arrests involving individuals associated with AAP. He also expressed concern over murders, extortion and gang violence, asking how the government intended to ensure the safety of citizens and police personnel.
Bajwa further questioned the government over allegations of corruption and scams raised by the Opposition, demanding transparent investigations wherever credible evidence warranted action.
Highlighting unfulfilled commitments, he asked why women were still awaiting the promised ₹51,000 benefit, why the promise of MSP for 22 crops remained unfulfilled, and why government employees continued to await pending DA arrears. He also demanded progress towards justice in Bargari Kalan.
Bajwa said the Congress would use the Insaaf Rally to raise these issues and seek accountability for every unfulfilled promise. “Punjab needs justice, security, transparent governance and answers. On November 4, through Rahul Gandhi’s Insaaf Rally, we will take the people’s questions directly to the government. Punjab gave AAP a mauka; now Punjab demands its hisaab,” Bajwa said.
