Chandigarh, November 2
Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia today asserted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government was being bank rolled by drug money and that this was the reason why the government had secured default bail for a drug smuggler who had close links with chief minister Bhagwant Mann and Manish Sisodia.
Addressing a press conference here, Majithia said an AAP worker and senior officer bearer in the Yudh Nashaen Virudh campaign – Lovepreet Singh was successful in securing default bail because the Punjab police did not present a challan in the 4.5 kilogram heroin recovery case in which he was arrested for six months.
Explaining the entire case, Majithia said Lovepreet, who even frequented stages with the chief minister, had been arrested with 8 kg of heroin worth Rs 80 crore in the international market on March 18 this year. He said intense pressure was put on the police to reduce the recovery to 4.5 kg following which the operation to free him from jail started. “First the SHO who had arrested Lovepreet was transferred. Then the SSP delayed presenting the challan in the case”.
The SAD leader the Punjab Police purposely sought an extension three days before the expiry of the 180 day period to file the challan. “Since these three days constituted holidays, the extension could not be given and a default bail was secured by Lovepreet”. He also disclosed that the prosecution, when questioned by the court about its tardy approach, asserted that the delay was because the FSL report was pending in the case. “Incidentally the FSL is also under the home minister”, he added.
Asserting that this model was being replicated across the State, Majithia said “water tight cases like the one against Lovepreet are being diluted and crores of money is being passed on to the AAP leadership for this purpose”. He said this was the reason why drug trade was increasing in the State.
Asserting that the AAP government was not using bulldozers where needed, Majithia said Lovepreet’s properties had not been seized till now because he was a blue eyed boy of the chief minister. “In direct contrast the police plants drugs against its opponents and then catches them as has happened in Khanna which was also caught on camera.”
