Nahan, February 20
BJP State President Dr. Rajeev Bindal said that the present Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has pushed the state’s economy into crisis after taking loans worth around ₹45,000 crore in about 40–45 months. He said the people of Himachal elected this government in 2022 to improve the state’s future, but instead of working for public welfare, it has failed to deliver and is now engaging in protests, dharnas, and demonstrations.
Dr. Bindal stated that the Central Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has provided unprecedented financial assistance to Himachal Pradesh. He said the state received the highest allocation for rural roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, major investments for four-lane highways, national highways, long tunnels, large bridges over reservoirs, and railway expansion toward Bilaspur. He added that between 2015 and 2025, the Centre provided approximately ₹89,000 crore, compared to about ₹18,000 crore between 2005 and 2015.
Dr. Bindal alleged that despite such support, unemployment has increased, women are facing hardships, and the state government has imposed new taxes and charges that have burdened the public. He claimed that HRTC fares have been raised, electricity tariffs increased, new meters have resulted in high bills, cement and ration prices have gone up, VAT on diesel has increased costs across sectors, and cess and taxes have been imposed on multiple services.
The BJP State President said the Congress government has stalled development and caused distress to the people of Himachal Pradesh. He asserted that the people of the state are aware of the situation and will hold the government accountable for its performance.
