Chandigarh, April 7
The General Secretary of All India Congress Committee, former Union Minister and MP Kumari Selja said that growing public anger is visible across the country over the LPG crisis, rising inflation and persistent increase in the prices of essential commodities. Following her recent visit to Guwahati in Assam, Kumari Selja said the rising cost of living is directly impacting household kitchens, forcing both middle-class and economically weaker sections to bear financial strain.
Selja said the current situation has created a widespread sentiment against the BJP, with people increasingly disillusioned by government policies and expecting change. She alleged that policies of the central government have repeatedly caused hardships for common citizens. Rising LPG cylinder prices, food inflation, lack of employment opportunities and neglect of basic services have adversely affected daily life, she said, adding that the government appears limited to making announcements rather than delivering solutions.
Referring to Haryana, Selja said farmers in the state are facing a “double blow.” While crops have been damaged due to natural calamities such as unseasonal rain and hailstorms, farmers are not receiving adequate compensation or relief. She said the financial condition of farmers is deteriorating, and the government’s approach appears insensitive. In this context, a meeting of Congress workers was held in Jind, where various public issues were discussed in detail.
Key concerns during the meeting included inflation, poor road conditions, drinking water shortage, deteriorating healthcare services, cancellation of ration cards for the poor, pension-related problems and rising debt among farmers. Party leaders and workers resolved to intensify their struggle by strongly raising public issues. They pledged to continue advocating for the rights of common people, the poor and farmers, and to pursue democratic means to ensure resolution of public grievances.
