Chandigarh, April 18
World Liver Day 2026 will be observed on April 19 with the theme “Solid Habits, Strong Liver”, underscoring the importance of small, healthy daily practices in protecting liver health. Prof. Sunil Taneja from the Department of Hepatology, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh, explained that four solid habits can make a profound difference: eating a balanced nutritional diet, staying active through regular physical activity, reducing and stopping alcohol intake, and undergoing regular liver health checks. He stressed that nutrition and exercise are not merely part of treatment but are foundational to liver health, noting his own research published in international journals on the positive impact of nutrition in liver disease.
Prof. Taneja highlighted that the liver performs heavy lifting for the body—filtering toxins, processing nutrients, aiding digestion, and keeping metabolism running smoothly—and that small daily changes can significantly strengthen its function. World Liver Day serves as a global call to action to raise awareness, break stigma around liver disease, and empower people with knowledge to make healthier choices, because a healthier liver means a healthier life. Despite being a vital organ with countless functions, millions worldwide continue to suffer from conditions such as hepatitis, fatty liver, cirrhosis, and liver cancer, making awareness and prevention more critical than ever.
