Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, on Wednesday strongly questioned the contradictory statements emerging from the Punjab government regarding the recent blast incidents in the state. Bajwa said it was deeply disturbing that Punjab Chief Minister and Home Minister Bhagwant Mann was publicly alleging the involvement of BJP behind the blasts, while Punjab’s Director General of Police was attributing the incidents to Pakistan’s ISI-backed elements.

“The people of Punjab deserve clarity. On one hand, the Chief Minister is blaming BJP, while on the other, the state’s top police officer is pointing towards Pakistan’s ISI. Whom should the people of Punjab trust — the political leadership or the state police chief?” Bajwa asked. He said the conflicting narratives coming from the government itself were creating confusion and spreading fear among the public at a time when Punjab required responsible leadership and a clear security response.

“If Bhagwant Mann genuinely possesses information or intelligence suggesting the involvement of BJP leaders or workers in these incidents, then he must immediately place all evidence before the people of Punjab and direct the Punjab Police to register criminal cases against every individual responsible,” Bajwa said. He further challenged the Chief Minister to act on his own allegations instead of making politically convenient statements. “I dare Bhagwant Mann to order legal action against those he is accusing. Punjab cannot be run through insinuations, selective narratives, and political blame games,” he added.

Bajwa also recalled that when he had earlier raised alarm bells and cautioned Punjabis regarding the deteriorating security situation in the state, the Mann government had responded by registering a police case against him for allegedly “spreading panic” and “hiding information.” “It is ironic that the same government which booked me for raising concerns is today itself issuing contradictory statements and creating further confusion among the people,” Bajwa said. He added that Punjab needs transparency, accountability, and decisive action to restore public confidence and maintain peace and stability in the state.
