Patiala, June 5

Through its flagship environmental initiatives, Project PRITHVI and Project CHIDIYA GHAR, the Patiala Foundation continues to promote environmental conservation, sustainable waste management and biodiversity protection across Patiala and surrounding regions.

Under Project PRITHVI, Patiala Foundation has successfully installed more than 200 Dry Leaf Composters (DLCs) in schools, colleges, institutions, community spaces, and public locations. These composters have the capacity to process approximately 16,000 kilograms (16 tonnes) of dry leaves, preventing open burning and reducing environmental pollution. The initiative is expected to generate nearly 10 tonnes of organic manure, creating an estimated environmental and economic value of approximately ₹5 lakh while encouraging sustainable waste management practices at the grassroots level.

The environmental impact of Project PRITHVI extends beyond waste management. The initiative is estimated to contribute approximately 18.98 tonnes of oxygen (O₂) generation while helping mitigate nearly 26.1 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, thereby supporting climate action and ecological sustainability.

Complementing these efforts, Project CHIDIYA GHAR focuses on protecting and promoting urban biodiversity. Under the project, Patiala Foundation has installed over 60 CHIDIYA GHAR (Bird Houses) across schools, institutions, parks and community spaces. These bird houses provide safe nesting and resting spaces for birds, helping restore habitats and encouraging communities to coexist harmoniously with nature. The project also serves as an educational tool, sensitizing young people and citizens about the importance of protecting local bird populations and preserving biodiversity.

Speaking on the occasion, Ravee Singh Ahluwalia, CEO & Founder, Patiala Foundation, said, “World Environment Day reminds us that environmental responsibility is not limited to a single day—it is a continuous commitment. Through Project PRITHVI and Project Chidiya Ghar, we are creating practical, community-driven solutions that address waste management, climate action, and biodiversity conservation. The installation of over 200 Dry Leaf Composters and 60 Bird Houses is a testament to what collective action can achieve. We are grateful to every institution, volunteer, partner, and citizen who has joined us on this journey towards a more sustainable future.”

The Patiala Foundation team also extended its heartfelt gratitude to all partner organizations, educational institutions, government departments, volunteers, donors, supporters and community members whose unwavering trust and continued support have made these initiatives possible.

“As we celebrate World Environment Day, Patiala Foundation reaffirms its commitment to expanding the reach of Project PRITHVI and Project CHIDIYA GHAR, empowering communities to become active participants in environmental stewardship and creating a lasting legacy of sustainability for future generations,” concluded Ahluwalia.
