The power struggle in the Congress is no longer between leaders of merit. It is now between the Parikramavadis and the Maha Parikramavadis, because all the Parakramavadis have already left the party, said BJP National General Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh.

Launching a scathing attack on the Congress leadership over the treatment meted out to senior leader Manish Tewari, Chugh said the episode has once again exposed the party’s complete surrender to the Gandhi-Vadra family.

“Manish Tewari must understand that today’s Congress rewards only those who perform parikrama around the Gandhi-Vadra family. Merit, integrity and independent thinking have become liabilities in the Congress,” Chugh said.

Chugh said that after courageous and self respecting leaders walked out of the Congress in Punjab, the party has been left with leaders whose only qualification is unquestioning loyalty to the Gandhi-Vadra family. “The Congress has entered the era of the ‘Chamcha Yug’. Competence has no place in the party. The only path to promotion is blind loyalty to one family,” Chugh said.

Referring to the reported humiliation of the two time MP from Punjab, Chugh said it reflects the party’s deeply entrenched culture of sycophancy. “When a leader of Manish Tewari’s stature is treated with such disregard, it sends a clear message that in the Congress, talent and public service count for nothing unless one bows before the Gandhi-Vadra family,”, he added.

Chugh said the Congress has transformed itself from a national political party into a family controlled establishment, where loyalty to one family has replaced merit, conviction and democratic values.
