Chandigarh, October 23
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer through education, early detection, and advanced treatment options. Keeping in mind this year’s theme on breast cancer awareness, “Every story is unique, every journey matters,” the National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE), Chandigarh, conducted an awareness program to spread a message of hope, resilience, and early detection of breast cancer on 23-10-2025. Professor Divya Dahiya, Department of General Surgery, inaugurated the day. She stressed upon the need for early detection and monthly screening. She mentioned that surgery has a significant role for the management of breast cancer along with radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins is pivotal in reducing breast cancer risk. Reducing the consumption of junk foods, red meats, and high-sugar items is equally important, as these have been linked to increased cancer risk. Regular exercise is a cornerstone in cancer prevention. In India, activities such as brisk walking and yoga not only fit seamlessly into daily routines but also help maintain a healthy weight, a critical factor in reducing breast cancer risk,” said Dr Sukhpal Kaur, Principal NINE.
The event received strong support and guidance from Dr. Manisha Nagi and Shabana, whose efforts contributed to the success of the program. The session aimed to enhance awareness among nursing students and faculty about the importance of prevention, timely screening, and comprehensive care for breast cancer patients. The event concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, highlighting the commitment of healthcare professionals to patient-centered care and ongoing education in oncology nursing.
