Chandigarh, November 18
A state-level culmination event to mark the 5th anniversary of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan was organised today at the U.T. Secretariat, Chandigarh, in conjunction with the national culmination ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE) at Amritsar. The national event from Amritsar, organised by the Ministry, was broadcast live at the U.T. Secretariat. A special message from the Prime Minister of India was read out by an officer of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and telecast live during the programme.
During the programme, a pledge to build a Nasha Mukt Bharat was administered by Rajesh H. Prasad, Chief Secretary, reaffirming the Administration’s resolve to strengthen community action against drug abuse and promote a healthier and safer society. Over 100 officials of the U.T. Administration participated in the ceremony, marking a meaningful conclusion to a month-long series of activities showcasing strong civic engagement and social responsibility across Chandigarh.
From August 1 to November 18, the Chandigarh Administration conducted an extensive series of 292 awareness and outreach activities across the Union Territory as part of the national campaign. These initiatives saw the enthusiastic participation of more than 9 lakh individuals.
As part of the Abhiyaan, mass pledge ceremonies were held across all schools, colleges, and offices in Chandigarh, with 1,37,093 individuals taking the pledge—both online and offline—to contribute to a drug-free society. Human chain formations, awareness rallies, and competitions such as essay writing, slogan writing, and poster-making were also organised to highlight the ill effects of substance abuse.
Today’s event celebrated the significant progress achieved under the campaign and reaffirmed the collective commitment of the Chandigarh Administration toward building a Nasha Mukt Bharat.
The event at the U.T. Secretariat witnessed the presence of Rajesh H. Prasad, Chief Secretary; Mandip Singh Brar, Secretary Home; Diprava Lakra, Secretary Finance; Prerna Puri, Secretary Education; Swapnil M. Naik, Secretary Hospitality; Hari Kallikkat, Secretary I.T.; Anuradha Chagti, Secretary Social Welfare; along with other senior officials of the Chandigarh Administration.
