Chandigarh, January 5

In a landmark achievement during the year 2025, Haryana Police has emerged as the top-performing state in India in securing money lost to cyber fraud. As per data available on the NCRP portal, Haryana successfully blocked nearly 36 per cent of the defrauded amount in real time, providing timely relief to thousands of victims. The state secured the first position nationally, while the second-ranked state managed to block only about 27 per cent—giving Haryana a significant lead of nearly 9 per centage points. This remarkable performance not only underscores Haryana’s top national ranking but also establishes its cyber policing framework as faster, technology-driven, citizen-centric and result-oriented compared to other states.

Owing to coordinated enforcement and strict action throughout 2025, Haryana also recorded a 36 per cent reduction in overall financial losses due to cyber fraud, reflecting growing public trust, a zero-tolerance approach, and effective crime control. Sharing his roadmap for the coming year, Haryana’s Director General of Police Ajay Singhal emphasized that the fight against cybercrime will be taken to the next level through advanced technology, proactive intelligence and citizen-focused policing. He stated that the achievements of 2025 reflect the strong institutional foundation of Haryana Police, and in 2026 the focus will be on artificial intelligence, data analytics, real-time banking coordination and proactive intelligence-led operations to dismantle cybercrime networks at their roots.

The DGP clarified that the priority will not be limited to post-crime action alone, but will strongly emphasize prevention, immediate blocking of defrauded money, and swift relief to citizens. He expressed confidence that Haryana will emerge as a model state for cyber security and cyber policing at the national level.

In 2025, enhanced public awareness and rising confidence in Haryana Police resulted in 1,41,685 cybercrime complaints, an increase of 8.5 per cent over 2024. Registration of cases rose by 12.7 per cent, with 6,212 cybercrime FIRs registered, ensuring more incidents were brought within the legal framework. Proactive (suo-moto) action by police witnessed a remarkable 62.6 per cent increase, with 356 cases registered, highlighting Haryana Police’s alert, vigilant and preventive approach.

DGP added that under a comprehensive five-point strategy adopted at the beginning of 2025, Haryana Police targeted the entire cybercrime ecosystem. “More than 1.5 lakh mobile numbers, 12,326 IMEIs, and 5,123 fake websites and social media accounts were blocked. About 3.54 lakh mule bank accounts used in cyber fraud were identified and frozen. Additionally, 91 suspicious bank branches were flagged and 62 bank officials arrested for their involvement. Through extensive public awareness campaigns, over 1.9 crore citizens were directly reached with cyber safety messages, significantly strengthening community resilience against cyber fraud”, he said.
