Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi today said that Keralam Chief Minister was scared of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as he knew PM Modi has the key to put him in jail, and that is the reason he was not speaking against Modi.
Addressing a series of largely attended public meetings here today, Gandhi reiterated that there was a clear understanding between the BJP and the ruling LDF in Keralam. He said, Modi wants the LDF to win and keep the Congress/UDF out of power.
This, Gandhi noted, was because PM knew that while he can control the LDF and the CPM, he cannot control the UDF and the Congress. Moreover, he added, Modi knew that while the Left posed no challenge to him at the national level, Congress was the only party capable of taking on the BJP across the country.
Gandhi said, it may appear strange that a Left party like the CPM would be aligning with an extreme Right-wing party like the BJP, but they both are united in opposing the Congress.
Asserting that the CPM was no longer a Leftist party, he cited the example of two senior CPM leaders, who were seated at the stage after having left the party. “The people who are genuinely Left-oriented are sitting with us today”, he remarked, while insisting that the CPM had left its pro-people ideology and turned pro-corporate like the BJP.
Explaining his charge that the BJP was supporting the LDF and the Chief Minister, Gandhi pointed out, Modi never speaks a word about the theft of gold from Sabarimala temple by the CPM leaders. “The CPM leaders stole gold from Sabarimala temple and replaced it with brass but no action was taken against them, and the so-called defender of Hinduism comes to Keralam and speaks nothing about it”, he pointed out, adding, this is because he wants the Left Front to win elections in Keralam.
Giving further evidence of BJP supporting LDF, Rahul Gandhi said that there was not a single case against the Kerala CM or his family despite huge corruption. He said, anyone who speaks against the BJP and confronts it, is intimidated, pointing out that he himself was facing 36 cases, had been disqualified from Parliament, had his house taken away, and was interrogated for 55 hours by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Referring to the Indo-US trade deal, Gandhi said, Modi had signed away India’s future to America just because he was afraid of getting exposed through Epstein files if he refused to accept Trump’s terms and conditions. Besides, he added, Modi was scared about the case against Gautam Adani, which actually threatens to expose the BJP’s financial architecture.
Gandhi pointed out that Modi had compromised country’s interests by opening agriculture to American imports, committing to buy goods worth Rs 9 lakh crore every year from the US, and surrendering India’s authority over oil purchases, thereby endangering the country’s energy security.
The senior Congress leader reaffirmed five guarantees for the people of Keralam, once UDF forms the government in the state. These include free bus travel for women, Rs 1,000 monthly cash assistance for all college and university-going girls, interest-free loans of up to ₹5 lakh for youth who want to start their own business, an increase in the old-age pension to Rs 3,000 per month, and Rs 25 lakh health insurance for every family in the state.
Gandhi also expressed his gratitude to all those Congress and the UDF workers and their families, who fought the CPM over years and paid with their lives. “You held our flag high against most difficult and hostile circumstances, and we will always be grateful to you”, he told their families.
Congress general secretary in-charge of organisation KC Venugopal also spoke in the public meetings.
