Chandigarh, March 31
MLA and former IAS officer Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal strongly condemned the brutal murder of three Congress block presidents. He said that this is not just an attack on individuals but a direct assault on democracy and the rule of law. He assured that Congress will make every effort to ensure that the perpetrators are punished and justice is delivered to the victims’ families. He further stated that the Chief Minister and the DGP are directly responsible for these killings and must accept accountability.

Dhaliwal said that neither the Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Singh Mann, nor the DGP of Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, are serious about maintaining law and order in the state. Dhaliwal pointed out that two murders occurred in Amritsar on the same day and there was even an explosion inside a police station, yet no statement was issued by the DGP. He added that this was the tenth blast in Punjab in recent times.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister was on a visit to Gujarat and is now engaged in promoting himself and his party. He has left Punjab and its law and order situation unattended. No concrete steps are being taken to improve the situation, and as a result, the people of Punjab are suffering and living in fear.

Dhaliwal further alleged that under the Aam Aadmi Party government, active leaders of opposition parties are being targeted. Within the past six months, three active Congress block presidents have been brutally murdered. On September 3, 2025, Gurmel Singh Toot, block president of Patti in Tarn Taran district, was shot dead in broad daylight. He had been actively associated with the Congress party for 25 years.

A month later, Moga block president Baljinder Singh Dala was also shot dead. He too was a very active member of the Congress party. Recently, Machhiwara Sahib block president Parminder Tiwari was brutally murdered with an axe. He was also deeply committed to party work. Dhaliwal stated that targeting active Congress leaders and workers raises serious questions about the government’s failure to maintain law and order.

Dhaliwal said the worsening law and order situation in the state is deeply concerning and raises serious questions about the safety of political figures as well as the functioning of the administration. Before being party workers, they are human beings. Targeted killings of Congress leaders are taking place in Punjab, and such fear and violence have no place in a democratic society.

Dhaliwal urged the state government and law enforcement agencies to take immediate and concrete action in this matter. He demanded that the accused behind these murders be identified and arrested without delay and strict action be taken against them. He emphasized the need for a fair and thorough investigation and appealed to people and political parties to maintain peace during this difficult time.
