Naya Gaon (Mohali), April 9
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was today wiped out in this Nagar Council, with the president of the Council – Balwinder Kaur along with four BJP councilors joining the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in the presence of its president Sukhbir Badal. Besides the BJP councilors, other senior leaders who joined the party today included senior leader Gurdhyan Singh, who is the husband of Council president Balwinder Kaur as well as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) founder member Jaspreet Singh Sandhu and Congress councilor Rinku.
Speaking on the occasion along with party Kharar halka incharge Ravinder Singh Khera, the SAD president while welcoming Gurdhyan Singh back into the party fold along with the entire top leadership of the BJP in the area, said, “The BJP leaders took a decision to join the SAD as the party alone has done development of Naya Gaon when in power”. The BJP councilors who joined the SAD today included Amandeep Kaur, Vinod Bindoliya, Vishal Passi and Sunehri Devi.
Badal while appointing Gurdhyan Singh as a member of the party’s general council, also elevated party leader Hardeep Singh Khizrabad as member of the Parliamentary Affairs Committee of the SAD. The SAD president also urged the constituents to elect Ravinder Khera as Kharar MLA. He also asserted that he was committed to the development of Naya Gaon.
“The work of our erstwhile government speaks for itself. We created New Chandigarh and put Mohali on the world map by establishing an international airport in the city,” he added. He said this was the reason why Punjabis were bestowing trust in the SAD and with its Punjab Bachao rallies getting a huge response. “The party is headed to win 100 seats in the forthcoming assembly elections and form the next government”, he added.
Listing the demands of the people of Naya Gaon, Gurdhyan Singh said the Council needed a modern sewerage system besides access to canal water. He also urged that commercial maps of buildings in the Council also be approved.
