Chandigarh, May 9
Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, on Saturday said that the Enforcement Directorate raids on AAP minister Sanjeev Arora and his subsequent arrest have once again exposed the serious corruption allegations surrounding the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab.
Bajwa said that this is not an isolated case, as several senior AAP leaders and individuals close to the Punjab government have repeatedly come under the scanner of investigative agencies. “The people of Punjab were promised honest and transparent governance, but instead they were allegedly looted by leaders of the ruling AAP party. Every time corruption allegations emerge, AAP leaders conveniently hide behind the excuse of ‘political vendetta’ instead of answering direct questions,” he said.
The Congress leader questioned why top AAP functionaries continue to face investigations if the party claims complete innocence. “The repeated appearance of senior AAP leaders in corruption-related investigations cannot simply be dismissed as coincidence or conspiracy. Punjab deserves clear answers from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the AAP leadership,” Bajwa added.
At the same time, Bajwa said that the BJP-led Union Government and central agencies must also answer tough questions regarding the timing of these actions. “If investigative agencies had credible information and evidence for years, then why was action delayed for four years? Why was Punjab allowed to suffer while alleged corruption flourished unchecked? Delayed action raises genuine concerns about political timing and selective use of agencies,” he said.
Bajwa further stated that people across Punjab are aware of the BJP’s political “washing machine,” where corruption cases against political leaders mysteriously weaken or disappear after political compromises and alignments. “Punjabis want to know whether these cases will reach their logical conclusion or eventually become instruments of political bargaining behind closed doors,” he remarked.
The Leader of Opposition said Punjab deserves transparency, accountability, and clean governance instead of political drama, blame games, and selective action. He demanded that both the AAP government in Punjab and the BJP-led Centre come clean before the people and ensure that justice is delivered without fear or favour.
