On Saturday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, while addressing a seminar at Shivalik College of Engineering, Dehradun on the theme “The Importance of Higher Education in Building a Developed India by 2047”, said that higher education is not merely a means of acquiring knowledge but the foundation for creating a developed, self-reliant, and prosperous India. He emphasized that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, unprecedented transformations have taken place in the fields of education, innovation, research, and skill development, which will play a vital role in realizing the vision of making India a developed nation by 2047.
The Chief Minister stated that the National Education Policy 2020 is a historic initiative aimed at restoring the ancient glory of the Indian education system. This policy promotes holistic development, innovation, research, and practical skills, preparing students to meet future challenges. He stressed that higher education institutions should not remain mere teaching centers but must evolve into centers of excellence for knowledge, research, and innovation.
Highlighting India’s progress, he said that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the country is emerging as a global startup hub, while initiatives like Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat have accelerated India’s growth journey. Today, India is establishing a strong global identity in diverse fields including science, technology, defense, space, health, and education.
The Chief Minister noted that Uttarakhand, the land of the gods, has always been a center of education, knowledge, and spirituality. The state government is continuously working to strengthen education based on innovation, digital learning, and Indian values. Smart classrooms, digital libraries, online learning facilities, and modern subjects such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Science are being promoted. He added that the Center for Hindu Studies established at Doon University will provide new direction to the study and research of Indian knowledge traditions.
Dhami further said that in the changing global scenario, it is essential to equip youth with future-oriented skills, innovation, and leadership abilities. For this, the state government is encouraging coordination between industries and academic institutions, internships, industry-linked courses, as well as startup and incubation centers. The goal is to transform youth from job seekers into job creators. Concluding his address, the Chief Minister urged academicians, experts, and intellectuals present to actively contribute their knowledge and experience in realizing the vision of a developed India by 2047.
