The Income Tax Department, Mumbai, has inducted 10 accomplished sportspersons from Haryana under the sports quota, reaffirming its commitment to recognising sporting excellence and providing accomplished athletes an opportunity to serve the nation while continuing to pursue their sporting careers.
The appointment letters were formally handed over to the newly inducted sportspersons by the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai, Alok Kumar, at Aayakar Bhawan, Mumbai, on August 12, 2026.
Applications were invited vide Notification dated January 7, 2026, for 97 vacancies. The recruitment process received an overwhelming response, with 3,595 applications from sportspersons representing various sporting disciplines across the country. Following rigorous scrutiny and evaluation in accordance with the prescribed criteria, 97 candidates were selected on merit.
A significant feature of the recruitment is that more than 80 per cent of the selected sportspersons have represented or participated at the international level, reflecting the exceptional sporting calibre of those joining the Department.
Among the 97 selected candidates, the 10 sportspersons from Haryana have distinguished themselves at national and international sporting events across disciplines including yogasana, volleyball, football, kabaddi, athletics and table tennis.
Speaking on the occasion, Kumar, congratulated the newly inducted sportspersons and assured them that they would have every opportunity to continue their sports practice and participate in competitions alongside their responsibilities in the Department. He said that the Income Tax Department, Mumbai, expects the newly inducted sportspersons to bring to public service the same discipline, determination, dedication and excellence that have distinguished their sporting careers.
The induction reflects the Government’s broader recognition of the contribution of sportspersons to the nation and provides accomplished athletes with a platform to pursue a career in public service while continuing to excel in their respective sporting disciplines.
As part of the induction programme, the newly recruited sportspersons were also briefed on their roles and responsibilities, service conditions and applicable Government rules, enabling them to begin their professional journey with the Department with a clear understanding of their duties.
The induction of these 10 talented sportspersons from Haryana is expected to further strengthen the sporting culture within the Income Tax Department and inspire young athletes to pursue both sporting excellence and public service.
