Former Punjab BJP State President and MLA Ashwani Sharma strongly condemned the attack on Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal at Nanded and termed the incident deeply unfortunate and unacceptable.
Sharma said that political differences and disagreement of views are an integral part of democracy, but violence can never be justified under any circumstances. He said that such an incident taking place on the sacred land of Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib makes it even more painful and disturbing.
“Punjab has already suffered immensely during the dark era of violence. We must therefore remain committed to peace, communal harmony and the rule of law. There is no place for violence in a democratic society,” Sharma said.
Sharma appealed to the Maharashtra government to ensure a fair and impartial investigation into the incident and take strict legal action against those responsible. He said that such incidents must not be allowed to undermine the peaceful and harmonious atmosphere of society.
Sharma prayed for the speedy recovery, good health and continued well-being of Sukhbir Singh Badal and expressed hope that the matter would be dealt with firmly in accordance with law.
