Jalandhar, June 21
Calling for a unified national crusade against drug abuse, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin has said, “Drug addiction has become a curse for the people of Punjab. We must reject it outright. It is destroying lives and devastating countless households. On this International Yoga Day, let us collectively pledge to eradicate this scourge from Punjab and the entire nation. We will not tolerate anything that weakens our roots or allows this poison to enter our society through our youth.”
Nabin was speaking to the media persons on the sidelines of the event organised on the occasion of 12th International Yoga Day at Lovely Professional University (LPU) on Sunday morning. Nabin also performed yoga with over 1,200 students. Interacting with the media during the event, the BJP leader emphasized that yoga has bestowed India with a unique and distinct identity on the global stage. Extending his greetings, Nabin said, “I congratulate everyone on International Yoga Day. It has infused the nation with renewed energy and a fresh identity. I believe this is the opportune moment for Punjab to decisively say ‘no’ to the menace of drugs.”
During the event, Nabin administered an anti-drug oath to the gathering of students. Highlighting the state’s drug crisis, he seamlessly linked the fight against addiction to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s overarching vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047. “India is now marching forward with a singular national objective,” Nabin asserted, invoking the Prime Minister’s vision. He added that the mantra of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas” remains the driving force guiding the country toward becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Several prominent dignitaries attended the event, including Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon, National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, LPU Chancellor and Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal, Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney, along with various senior party leaders.
