Chandigarh, April 20
The Sirsa MP, Former Union Minister and General Secretary of All India Congress Committee Kumari Selja expressed concern over disruptions in wheat procurement across Haryana, citing technical glitches and administrative shortcomings. Selja said multiple complaints from grain markets indicate that the procurement system is not functioning smoothly. Issues such as portal errors, frequent server downtime and failure of biometric verification are affecting the process, leading to delays in crop sales. She noted that farmers are first required to complete online formalities, but technical failures are compounding their difficulties.
Selja said that Instead of facilitating procurement, the system is creating hurdles for farmers. The Congress leader also pointed to shortages of gunny bags, delays in lifting produce and pending payments as additional concerns affecting farmers across mandis.
Selja urged the government to resolve these issues without delay to provide relief to farmers. She emphasised the need to simplify procedures, ensure transparency and make the procurement process time-bound. She added that adequate arrangements must be put in place in mandis to prevent further inconvenience, reiterating that the Congress will continue to raise farmers’ concerns to ensure fair access and timely support.
