Chandigarh, May 14
BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh heartily welcomed the decision of the CCEA, chaired by PM Narendra Modi, to approve a historic MSP hike for 14 Kharif crops for marketing season 2026-27. With an estimated farmer payout of Rs. 2.60 lakh crore and procurement of 824.41 lakh metric tonnes guaranteed, this decision stands as a shining testament to PM Modi’s decisive, dynamic and visionary commitment to India’s Annadata. He further highlighted that the revised MSPs are fixed at a minimum of 1.5 times the all-India weighted average cost of production, ensuring at least 50 per cent profit over input costs for farmers. MSP payments to farmers for all 14 Kharif crops stood at Rs. 18.99 lakh crore from 2014-15 to 2025-26, nearly four times the Rs. 4.75 lakh crore paid during the Congress-led UPA decade of 2004-05 to 2013-14. Procurement of 14 Kharif crops has similarly nearly doubled from 4,679 lakh metric tonnes during the UPA era to 8,746 lakh metric tonnes under the Modi government — a testament to action over empty promises.
Chugh said that the MSP hike brings exceptional cheer to Punjab’s farmers, as the state’s primary crops — paddy and cotton — have received significant increases. With Grade A paddy MSP now at Rs. 2,461 per quintal and long staple cotton MSP at Rs. 8,667 per quintal, Punjab’s farming community stands to gain enormously. He said that while the AAP government in Punjab has done nothing but make hollow promises — whether on debt waiver, paddy bonus, or timely procurement — it is PM Modi’s government at the Centre that continues to deliver real, tangible and ground-level benefits to Punjab’s Annadata year after year, without fail.
Chugh said that this is just the beginning. When the BJP forms its government in Punjab, riding on the wave of PM Narendra Modi’s decisive, dynamic and visionary leadership, the state’s farmers will experience what a true Double Engine Government means in practice. Direct procurement at MSP will reach every village, investment in agricultural infrastructure will multiply manifold, and Punjab’s long-suffering farmers — looted by Congress and abandoned by AAP — will finally receive the dignity and prosperity they truly deserve. Chugh called upon the people of Punjab to reject the politics of deception and give the BJP an opportunity to write a new golden chapter of Annadata Samridhi for the state.
Chugh directly questioned Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, asking when his government would walk the talk on the promises made to the state’s farmers. He pointed out that PM Modi has time and time again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to the Annadata — and nowhere is this more evident than in neighboring Haryana, where the BJP’s Double Engine Government ensures MSP-based procurement across all crops, providing farmers with guaranteed and timely returns for every grain they grow. While Haryana’s farmers rest easy knowing their produce will be procured at fair prices, Punjab’s farmers under AAP continue to wait — for the Rs. 2 lakh loan waiver promised before the 2022 elections that has since vanished into thin air, and for MSP procurement on all crops that remains a distant dream. Chugh asked Bhagwant Mann point-blank — how long will Punjab’s Annadata keep listening to excuses? When will the AAP government honor its solemn promises on complete MSP procurement and the farm loan waiver it so shamelessly continues to dodge?
