The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today demanded the entire case involving the heinous sacrilege committed by chief minister Bhagwant Mann against the Guru Sahiban as well as the botched cover up operation in which the chief minister used the police machinery to procure fake forensic reports to give himself a clean chit should be handed over to the CBI.

Addressing a press conference here, the five member committee of the SAD, which has been constituted to approach all religious organizations and the Sant Samaj to form a public movement against the chief minister and his actions, said “only a CBI probe can get to the bottom of this issue as it has become an inter-State case and there is a money trail which needs to be investigated”.

Giving details, Maheshinder Singh Grewal said, “It is clear now that the prime accused in the case is the chief minister. It is also clear that fabrication of documents and forgery has been done at the instance of the chief minister”. He said it was also a fact that the Aam Aadmi Party had not only created a fake document but also used it in public domain and presented it as a genuine document while seeking a probe into the case by the DGP Gaurav Yadav.

Giving further details, Dr Daljit Cheema said a constitutional crisis had been created in Punjab with Bhagwant Mann becoming the beneficiary of a FIR. He said in this process the chief minister had not only violated the law and the constitution to save himself but had also misused the power of the State and treasury funds. “All this has been done to show Sri Akal Takht Sahib in poor light”. He also pointed out that the chief minister was yet to explain in which capacity he had sent Commissioner level officers of the Punjab Police to procure a fake forensic report. “There is no clarity if Bhagwant Mann gave directions to the police officers in this regard or they resorted to this falsification on their own”. He also asked finance minister Harpal Cheema to clarify on what basis he had made the fake forensic reports public and claimed they were genuine reports.

Senior leader Balwinder Singh Bhunder said the chief minister had first gotten into a confrontation with Sri Akal Takht Sahib. “Then to hide his fault he resorted to lies including procuring a fake forensic report from Gurgaon. Now when he has been exposed and it has been proved that the forensic reports were ‘manufactured’ by the team of Punjab Police officials, Bhagwant Mann is again trying to mislead the Sikh sangat with new lies. Try as he might, he should know that no one has succeeded by getting into a confrontation with Sri Akal Takht Sahib”.
