Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (HNBGU) Srinagar has officially announced the establishment of a centre for open and distance Education, marking a significant expansion in the university’s academic offerings.
The move follows a series of administrative approvals aimed at broadening access to higher education in the region. The proposal for the centre was initially recommended during the 24th meeting of the Academic Council and received final clearance during the 32nd meeting of the Executive Council.
University Registrar Prof. Y. P. Raivani issued the formal notification on Thursday, confirming that the centre has been structured to meet national benchmarks. “The centre has been established in strict accordance with the UGC (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020,” Prof. Raivani said.
He further emphasised that all operations, curriculum delivery, and student support services will align with the specific guidelines and standards mandated by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to ensure quality and academic integrity. The official sanction has bene approved by both the academic and executive councils of HNBGU while the regulatory framework is built upon the UGC 2020 Regulations for online and distance learning.
The main objective of the move is to provide flexible learning opportunities while maintaining the university’s rigorous academic standards, said Ashutosh Bahuguna, Public Relations Officer (PRO) HNBG University.
The establishment of this centre is expected to benefit a wide demographic of students, particularly those in remote areas of Uttarakhand who require flexible schedules to pursue their degrees. Detailed information regarding specific course offerings and admission timelines is expected to be released shortly, said the officials.
