Chandigarh, January 27
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Badal has strongly condemned the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann claiming that Mann’s twisted reference to Bhai Ghanaiya to justify handing over Punjab’s river waters to other states, especially Haryana, is outrageous and sacrilegious. In a post on social media handle X, Sukhbir wrote, “Dasam Patshah blessed acts of compassion and charity but also taught us to fight for our just rights. It is one thing to offer water to the dying as an act of charity and compassion as Bhai Kanhaiya did and quite another to surrender Punjab’s lifeline, the river waters. Mann must apologise for distorting Sikh history. This is about Punjab’s riparian rights—not charity. In fact, Bhagwant is following in the footsteps of Congress CM Darbara Singh, who surrendered before Indira Gandhi. SAD will never allow this betrayal. For his information: Parkash Singh Badal’s government permanently settled the #SYL issue by denotifying the canal and returning the land to owners/farmers.”
