New Delhi, March 18
Congress MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today raised the voice of the farmers in the Lok Sabha. In his address, Warring said, “The input costs are rising, while farmers’ incomes remain stagnant”, while demanding a loan waiver and interest relief for small and medium farmers.
The Congress MP demanded a ₹50,000 crore crop diversification package for Punjab. Targeting the Centre on the stubble issue, he said that farmers are being blamed, but no support is being provided for solutions. The Congress MP questioned why Punjab’s farmers are excluded from crop insurance amid the climate crisis.
“The Centre came under fire on the PDS issue, with allegations that the poor are being denied ration in the name of KYC”, he said, while demanded a ₹500 crore corpus fund for Punjab Agricultural University to strengthen research.
