Chandigarh, March 20
Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Partap Singh Bajwa, today launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann after the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) summoned an AAP leader and his wife in connection with a major drug seizure case.
Bajwa said that the latest development, involving the summoning of AAP leader Kamal Kumar alias Bori and his councillor wife, has once again exposed the deep-rooted links between the ruling party’s functionaries and the drug trade. He pointed out that this comes just days after the arrest of an AAP sarpanch in Tarn Taran and the recovery of massive quantities of heroin, methamphetamine (ICE), and opium.
“The NCB action clearly indicates that the drug network in Punjab is not just a law-and-order issue but has penetrated the political structure of the ruling party. From sarpanches to aspiring ticket seekers, the trail is deeply disturbing,” Bajwa said.
Bajwa further stated that reports of multiple NDPS cases and alleged links emerging through technical surveillance raise serious questions about the AAP government’s claims of eliminating drugs from Punjab. “Instead of wiping out the drug menace, the AAP government appears to be shielding or ignoring those within its own ranks,” he added.
Bajwa also expressed concern over reports of possible international links, stating that any connection with cross-border smuggling networks is a grave threat to Punjab’s security and social fabric. Demanding accountability, he asked Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to come clean on how individuals with such serious allegations were allowed to rise within the party. “The people of Punjab deserve answers. Silence from the Chief Minister only strengthens the perception that AAP is compromised,” he said. Bajwa reiterated that the Congress will continue to raise the issue until strict action is taken and the political protection allegedly enjoyed by those involved is completely dismantled.
