Rajpura, June 28
Torrent Power has acquired the 1,400 MW supercritical Rajpura Thermal Plant from Larsen & Toubro Power Development Ltd for ₹3,632.35 crore, effective June 25, following clearance from the Competition Commission of India.
With this deal, Torrent Power has taken over 100% equity and convertible instruments of Nabha Power Ltd, making Rajpura Thermal Plant a wholly owned subsidiary. The plant, comprising two 700 MW units, supplies electricity under a long-term PPA with Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).
The acquisition lifts Torrent Power’s operational thermal generation capacity from 5 GW to about 6.4 GW. The company had earlier notified exchanges about the agreement and regulatory approval on February 16 and April 8, 2026.
Torrent Power, part of the diversified Torrent Group, operates across power generation, transmission, distribution, and cable manufacturing, alongside interests in pharmaceuticals and gas distribution.
